Confirmed: Mikel Landa signs for Astana
According to trustworthy website El Pedal de Frodo, Mikel Landa has inked a two-year deal with Kazakh outfit Astana.
The young climber has been heavily linked with the team in recent months and on Wednesday told said website that a deal has indeed been reached.
"I'm very grateful to Astana for giving me this opportunity. I'm looking forward to embarking on this new adventure", he says.
Having spent the last three years in the famous orange of Euskaltel, he naturally had words of gratitude for his now former employer as well.
"I want to thank Euskaltel Euskadi and the Fundación Ciclista Euskadi for giving me the opportunity to become a professional cyclist", he's quoted as saying.

Not the team I would have chosen but good luck to him, it will be interesting to see how he develops.
ReplyDeleteActually, it will be interesting to see how all the ex Euskaltel riders develop, to see if they improve or otherwise. There seems to have been an awful lot of 'promise' or 'potential' without a lot of results. Was that team training, tactics, support...we may find out.
I agree. Very curious at the development of Sicard.
ReplyDeleteSicard has been so frustrating to me. i often am amazed to look back at his U23 WC and see the competition he throttled.
ReplyDeleteIt's gonna hurt in a few years to see the likes of Landa, Sicard, Ion, even Nieve reach their highest potential on other squads. Ijust hope for them, they do.
