Txurruka down as Euskaltel lose Giro TTT

Euskaltel made a mess of today's 32,2km team time trial around Verona, the race's fourth stage. It was only partially their own fault though.

The race started off in the worst possible fashion when Miguel Mínguez punctured just a kilometre or two in. The team was forced to reshuffle, and things got even worse when Amets Txurruka hit the deck after approximately 10 kilometres. Fortunately he's fine and will be ready to start tomorrow though, "only" suffering bruises to his right thigh.

Approaching the line, Adrián Sáez and Pierre Cazaux had both been forced to let go, and the team posted the slowest time (by far). Euskaltel ceded 2:22, a full 37 seconds more than Ag2r in 21st place. More importantly though, Nieve lost time to all of his rivals for the GC.

But the team did not wait to Amets? How can they be so much slower then all te other teams? Am I seeing this good, Katusha with Rodriguez, Moreno, Losada and some unknown riders do 2.17 better then Euskaltel? I don't get it.

Unlucky day, as Bilbao loses the big final:-( However, they showed a big heart and that's what important, such a big emotions after the match.

You're onto something. If Katusha could post a time like that, surely Euskaltel can as well. And even if they hadn't lost Minguez and Txurruka, it's not like those two are time trial monsters. They would probably have gone out the back anyway...

And yeah, shame to see them lose. Didn't play to their potential. Ibai Gómez and Muñain were good, Amorebieta awful, Susaeta off colour.
