Samu to lead Liège charge

After much back and forth, Samuel Sánchez will lead Euskaltel in Sunday's big one: Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

So says the team's official website this afternoon. Igor Antón will as expected line up alongside the Olympic champ, and will potentially form a fearsome twosome if can rediscover some of the chispa that's been lacking thus far in 2012. Giro-bound Mikel Nieve will also take the start, but is unlikely to make much of an impression as he's only got 10 days of racing in his legs so far this season.

Full team: Igor Antón, Jorge Azanza, Gorka Izagirre, Egoi Martínez, Mikel Nieve, Rubén Pérez, Samuel Sánchez and Romain Sicard.

They can both get some big points here! This is what the team needs!

What a team, now they have -except of domestics Egoi and Azanza- all their best riders together. Results are expected now...

They have to put people in the break and have Samu, Nieve, and Anton in the front 12 at the bottom of the last climb. Every race (besides pais vasco) they never have a precense in the front of the race. They never have good position for the final short climbs.

They do not have the body and technique for that kind of work...

I agree Tony, position is key - and they keep getting it wrong. Nieve should really ride shotgun for his two team-mates, and Antón should go with a break on the Redoute perhaps. I don't think he's strong enough to cut it if he waits 'till the very last climb. Samu is a sure bet for top 10 though.

The lack of a clear cut favorite bodes well for Samu and co. Hopefully Antón finds some sort of form to help pull off a good old 1-2 attack
