Euskaltel confirmed for the 2013 World Tour

The unpopular foreign signings by Euskaltel have proven to do the trick as the UCI have confirmed that Euskaltel are one of the top 15 teams on sporting value, which give them an automatic spot in the World Tour for next season.

Euskaltel was able to slip into the top 15 with the signing of 11 new riders, including 9 non-Basque riders, a first for the squad, that had a large amount of UCI points to their names. According to Biciciclismo, Euskaltel will still have to see the UCI Licensing Committee so that they can have their license renewed through 2016. With a guaranteed license, the team will be able to bring more Basque riders back into the fold in the coming years.

I'm still undecided i must admit. Would i prefer Euskatel out of the World Tour BUT with only Basque's athletes ?
Anyway, we must be proud to see our beloved team still in the Champions League of cycling and we must keep in mind that the company EUSKALTEL has given the team money (a lot of money) to stay in the World Tour. So, despite still in two minds i say "AUPA EUSKALTEL" !!!!!!!

I suppose the new rules for maintaining UCI world tour credentials may have forced Euskaltel to abandon their all Basque policy, which is a bit of a shame. The policy is a bit ruthless when you consider that most members on a team are not their to get UCI points.

I'm still somewhat torn by the new Euskaltel. In some ways it makes sense, but for sentimental reasons I disagree with it. I only hope that the new Euskaltel will make them a touch more relevant in the spring classics. One can only hope

Only 12 riders (of max. 30) make up the total points of a team. So plenty of space for workers, or loyal domestiques. Txurruka and Velasco could have stayed I suppose if for example Azanza would not. I think it's the money Amets was asking.
