Euskaltel anonymous as Jungels storms Milan-San Remo precursor

The riders in orange disappeared off the radar as RadioShack-Leopard-Trek's precocious 20-year-old Bob Jungels stole the show in the GP Nobili Rubinetterie.

Igor González de Galdeano had decided to field a comparatively strong team for the Italian one-day race, including the likes of Egoi Martínez and Mikel Landa in the line-up. Once the racing got underway, though, Euskaltel were found wanting.

A four-man break including eventual winner Jungels, Movistar's Eloy Teruel, Katusha speedster Marco Haller and Colombia's Edwin Ávila broke clear some 12 kilometres in and quickly built up a decent lead. The man from Luxembourg found the pace a tad too slow, though, deciding to attack his breakaway companions and going for glory himself.

Incredibly, he pulled it off, crossing the line almost a minute ahead of the pack. Saxo-Tinkoff's Daniele Bennati came through for second ahead of Astana's Simone Ponzi.

Euskaltel's top man on the day was Miguel Mínguez, the wiry climber finishing 19th.
