Euskaltel impressive in Giro

Euskaltel enjoyed a good showing today in the Giro d`Italia`s second stage. Though they haven`t got any noteworthy results to show for it, they can definetely be pleased with their performance. The team, with Joseba Zubeldia and Markel Irizar in particular, did a huge amount of work at the front of the peloton to bring the escapees back. Euskaltel`s hope for the day was of course pinned on Koldo Fernández and his finishing-speed. And with the break successfully brought back, and with Koldo among the first 20, it all looked good. But, disaster struck, this time in form of a massive pile-up with only 1 km to go. Koldo just escaped the crash, but all momentum was lost for him. Koldo came in 30th in the end, and will be hoping to avoid any similar crashes in the coming days. Dioni Galparsoro, Aitor Hernández, Markel Irizar and Aketza Peña, who dramatically hit the deck close to the end, did also manage to come in with a sligthly smaller peloton. Complete results:
