Euskaltel invited to Giro

Euskaltel have gladly been granted an invitation to this year's Giro d'Italia. I'm not sure that the invitation means that they have to take part, I guess it doesn't, but I sure hope they'll accept it. Big teams like Astana, High Road, Bouygues, Agricole and Acqua & Sapone were not invited, to my delight, so clearly Euskaltel must be doing something right, at least when it comes to fighting doping.

Why to your delight Magnus? Don't you like Astana, Bouyges etc?

what a shame. Euskaltel is going to take a crappy team who nobody gives a damn about. Euskaltel has all the good riders focusing on Tour and Vuelta,so why are they invited? They won't win a single stage.

Look. I enjoy watching euskaltel at Tour and Vuelta, but at the Giro they never do anything. Their teams are always a shame

I'm very surprised by this invitation as Euskaltel won't send any of their big guns. It's cool, and a big compliment to the team, but I don't quite get it. If it's about doping, then why wasn't C.A invited? They're probably one of the cleanest teams the past five years...

Don't forget that! :
a lot of young riders from Euskaltel could made a Grand Tour this year, who couldn't take part in the Tour or in the Vuelta. (If the team take part in the Giro, of course).
I say that these riders could have a lot of experience in Italy, if the team do it. Who doesn't want to do this, if he knows that he wouldn't go to the Tour or to the Vuelta?? It's a great opportunity for these guys, I think. And don't forget, it's a very good chance for another riders, like Inigo or Koldo to train before the Tour. There are only 3 grand tours in a year, so we have to play on all the chances that we have, I think. So we have to go to the Giro, because it's a very big chance for a lot of young euskara! This is my opinion.

Great news Magnus, thank you very much, it's a very happy night for me. :)

I have no problems with Bouygues or CA, though they treat it even more like training than Euskaltel does. I'm delighted that Astana and High Road, two so-called "doping teams" didn't get invited. I was a bit surprised myself to see Euskalte invited, but riders like Iñigo, Dioni, Koldo and Iván might ride it, so perhaps Euskaltel will be a bit stronger than last year.

Lets hope... I was surprised that C.A. didn't get an invitation, because they have Italian climber Caucchioli.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is that Acqua e Sapone wasn't invited, as they have Stefano Garzelli on the team, who won 2 stages last year. He also won the Giro in 2000 I think...
