Iban skips the Ardennes

Iban will not ride any of the three Ardennes classics this year. Iban was scheduled to do the two last ones, the Fleche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège, but won`t ride them due to his bad knee. Joxean "Matxin" Fernandez, sports director at Saunier Duval, wants Iban to stay home, train and relax and let his knee heel properly. "Matxin" hopes this will do Iban good, so that he can shine in the Giro d`Italia in May.

I must admit I'm dissapointed, but as racer who's experienced knee probs I also understand.
I worry about his condition for the Giro, though. Will he be strong enough?

That`s the big question isn`t it? Let`s hope so, but time`s ticking...

I think this is bad for his Giro, but it can be good for his form in Tour de France...

That`s a good point... As you say, he might peek for the Tour instead
