Euskaltel strong in ENECO TT
The Euskaltel youngsters once again showed their prowess against the clock in today's final stage of the ENECO Tour, a flat 17km out-and-back course starting and ending in Genk. Jonathan Castroviejo beat time trial illuminaries like Klöden, prologue winner Tuft, World Champ Grabsch , young powerhouse Boom and Italian wonderkid Malori, among others, to take an excellent eighth on the stage, just 27 seconds down on the untouchable Tony Martin. Romain Sicard also put in a strong ride by grabbing 18th ahead of specialists like Aussie TT champ Meyer, former under-23 World Champ Cornu and perennial contender Lang, just 50 down. Gorka Izagirre rode to a nice 43rd place, 1:21 adrift, while Rubén Pérez and Iñaki Isasi both ended up at 1:56, and Jorge Azanza at 2:28. These strong showings meant Euskaltel took a highly creditable 7th as a team on the day, and finished up fifth overall. Nice! Final GC looks like this:
- 23rd, Jonathan Castroviejo
- 25th, Romain Sicard
- 30th, Iñaki Isasi
- 58th, Rubén Pérez
- 64rd, Gorka Izagirre
- 98th, Jorge Azanza
