Izagirre out of Flanders; set for GP Induráin

Jon Izagirre, so impressive last week in Gent-Wevelgem, will surprisingly not line up in Sunday's Ronde van Vlaanderen.

The team's own website today writes that Izagirre will instead participate in Saturday's Vuelta al País Vasco tune-up race, the Gran Premio Miguel Induráin. No reason was given for the change. Romain Sicard, who was originally set to take part in the GP Induráin, will now forego the race.

The roster for Saturday now reads: Samuel Sánchez, Igor Antón, Egoi Martínez, Juan José Oroz, Gorka Verdugo, Mikel Astarloza, Gorka Izagirre, Jon Izagirre, Jorge Azanza and Mikel Landa.

Peio Bilbao comes in for Jon Izagirre and completes the eight-man team for both Flanders and Paris-Roubaix: Alán Pérez, Rubén Pérez, Adrián Sáez, Pablo Urtasun, Pierre Cazaux, Miguel Minguez, Ricardo García and Peio Bilbao.

I'm loathe to speculate on Izagirre's change of schedule, but, whisper it quietly, perhaps his strong form has propelled him into País Vasco-contention.

Bad news. Both Izagirres should do Flanders, they can ride a result here! Last year Gorka was pretty strong and this year with Jon, well I had expectations. With the team they send now they'd better stay home.

Yeah, they'd definitely be the team's best shots at decent results on the cobbles. But I wouldn't rule out a good ride from Urtasun for example.

By the way, not looking forward to see young, featherweight climber Peio Bilbao bouncing around on the pavé. He's in for a tough ride.

Yeah Bilbao is in for it... But they do have a great team for Pais Vasco. Hopefully some good results to come!

Let the sensational results from Atlethic Bilboa be a good motivator...

I'd love to see Bilbao's Andoni Iraola on a bike - I imagine he'd look just like Mikel Nieve!
